The October 1, 2021 First Friday Elkton Art Loop Event at The Palette & The Page, features an opening reception, books signings, music and light refreshments from 5pm-8pm.
The First Friday Event, October 1, 2021 at The Palette & The Page Gallery will present the glass work of Robanne Palmer and the oil paintings of Teresa Vadala in the Special Exhibit Gallery Show “Calculations in Color.” The reception is from 5pm-8pm and will have live music by Em McKeever during the Opening. We also welcome authors Martin Berman-Gorvine and Brian Berkey who will be signing their books. The show will be in the Special Exhibit Gallery through Friday, October 29th.
Always, Robanne Palmer has been attracted to the sea. There seems to be a force pulling her toward it, like the moon’s influence upon the tides. As a glass artist, she looks for ways to incorporate the magical essence of the sea in her work. By recycling colorful glass bottles, stained glass scraps, and jars, new treasures are created! Glass scraps can be melted into beads, pendants and icicles–all hand made in Robanne’s studio using a torch and kiln. This Mermaid likes to play with fire! With every beach visit, her pockets become full of shells, sea glass, smooth pebbles, and driftwood. They get transformed into fun wearable art helping to remind you of your inner Siren Soul who longs to be back in your own secret cove.
Teresa Vadala works in oil paint and charcoal. A largely representational painter, her subjects range from still life, to figure, and landscape. She has been drawing since childhood but fell in love with color at the Maryland Institute College of Art and later became enamored with oil painting in Indiana University’s MFA program. She taught in Florence, Italy with Indiana University, Bloomsburg University, and Delaware College of Art and Design. Her work has been exhibited locally as well as in NYC, Philadelphia, and Caracas, Venezuela. Teresa lives and paints in North East, Maryland.

Martin Berman-Gorvine is the author of seven science fiction novels, many with an alternate history theme. These include 36; Seven Against Mars; Save the Dragons!; which was a finalist for the Prometheus Award; Heroes of Earth; and Monsters of Venus all available during the evening.
Brian Berkey, is the author of So Long, Bob. Now semi-retired, he continues to work as a consultant with various clients in chemical process safety management. Brian is also an ordained minister in the Church of the Brethren. He lives in Elkton, MD with his wife, Emily; they have two sons and five grandchildren. More than 25 years ago, family members passed on the letters that had been sent home from his father, Bob Berkey, during his time in the Army Air Force in World War II. Brian took the letters, incorporated them with some historical information into a book as a gift for his father and years later, included some additional family history, resulting in the book So Long, Bob about the experiences of his family during the extraordinary time of World War II.
We welcome back musician, Em McKeever for the Opening Reception on October 1st.
